Strive to Thrive...2011

Happy New Year! May 2011 bring much joy, love, peace, and happiness to all.

Thrive simply means to prosper; be fortunate or successfull. To grow, develop vigorously; flourish.

We "survived" 2010, but I say we THRIVE in 2011! So STRIVE to THRIVE...

Missing Hannah & Mom @ Christmas...

Hannah loved the Sponge Bob Christmas CD & especially this "1st Christmas" song.
Me, Marcey, & Zach sat down and watched it today. We laughed & cried about the memories playing this brought back. Hannah would laugh & sing along as well as mimic all of Sponge Bob's sounds.

I heard Blue Christmas on the radio the other evening and thought of my mother & grandfather.
Blue Christmas was one of their favorite songs. Thought of my brother too. He used to make fun of that song and Elvis' "Santa Claus is back in town". Good times.

I sure miss them all but know they are celebrating Christmas in heaven w Jesus. I can imagine what kind of birthday party they throw up in heaven for Jesus every season.

Thanksgiving...

What am I thankful for? I'm thankful for being alive another day and having my wife & sons with me. Even though my mother & daughter are no longer with me, I'm thankful they aren't suffering any longer.
This will be our first holiday season since Hannah passed away and my 2nd season w/out my mother. I'm praying for strength during this holiday season. I want it to be good for my family.
We miss Hannah & mom, but we are still here and we still have each other.
I'm praying for God's blessings on us as a family, emotionally, physically, and financially.
Zach only has 1.5 years left in HS, Kyle is beginning his journey into adulthood. I still have a lot of living ahead of me, Lord willing.

I Thess. 5:8 ...in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you...

James 5:8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. 10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. 12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

God's message to those in need...

Lyrics from an old Motown song...Sam & Dave, Hold On

Don't you ever feel sad, lean on Me when times are bad.
When the day comes & your in doubt, in a river of trouble, about to drown.
Hold on, I'm coming.
Hold on, I'm coming.

I'm on My way, your lover.
If it gets cold, I'll be your cover.
Don't have to worry, because I'm near.
No need to suffer, because I'm here.
Hold on, I'm coming.
Hold on, I'm coming.

Reach out to Me for satisfaction.
Call My name for a quick reaction.

In these days & times, this should be every believers theme song.
Psalms 37:25
"I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken, or their children begging for bread”.

BUILD A PRAISE PORTAL

Psalm 24:7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory.

This scripture is very inspirational to me. It talks about lifting up gates. A gate is an entry or exit to & from a walled city. A portal if you will.
PORTAL - entranceway, doorway, entry, threshold; an entrance to a tunnel or mine.
A web site that functions as an entry point to the Internet.
When passing through a portal there is usually a change...
1. Scenery (inside -vs- outside)
2. Atmosphere (danger -vs- safety)
3. Temperature (cold or hot -vs-comfortable)

The Psalmist here gives us a key on how to build a portal to the earth so that the Lord may enter in.
Worship & praise to God is what miraculously builds a portal in which the Lord (of hosts) may enter in and demonstrate His glory & His power. When a blind man heard that Jesus was passing by he began to cry out to draw attention to himself. Worship & cries of desparation get God's attention.

Mark 10:47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. 48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. 49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

I believe that many times we pray about things all wrong. Instead of praying "God get me out...",
we should pray "Lord come on in and fix this situation...".
Perfect example was Paul & Silas in the Philippian jail. They weren't praying to get out of jail, they were "praising" God & He came in.

Acts 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

So when things aren't going like they should, build a praise portal and invite the Lord, Mighty in Battle, to come into your life, your situation, your need. He is the King of Glory.

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
AMEN

This a preview of Hannah's memorial bench that will be placed at the place where the bus picks up the special needs kids at the school in Hillsboro, TX where Hannah went. School was one of her favorite things in life. In summer months, my wife had to conduct class in Hannah's room similar to the routine she enjoyed at school. She loved to play the memory game, numbers, colors, and most of all singing.

I can't believe its been over 8 months since my little darling went home to be with the Lord. Some days I miss her really bad. But like her, I try to find consolation in music and singing. I ran across an old Paul Simon song right after Hannah passed that deals with this very subject. It's called "Mother & Child Reunion". Paul Simon wrote it back in the early 70's when friends of his lost their child in an accident.

Lyrics from the song...
"I cant for the life of me

Remember a sadder day

I know they say let it be

But it just dont work out that way

And the course of a lifetime runs

Over and over again..."

-----

"Oh, little darling of mine.

I just cant believe its so,

And though it seems strange to say

I never been laid so low

In such a mysterious way

And the course of a lifetime runs

Over and over again..."

This is an eye opener... Some probably never thought nor looked at this
Psalm in this way, even though they say it over and over again.

The Lord is my Shepherd
That's Relationship!

I shall not want
That's Supply

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
That's Rest!

He leadeth me beside the still waters.
That's Refreshment!

He restoreth my soul
That's Healing!

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness.
That's Guidance!

For His name sake
That's Purpose!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
That's Testing!

I will fear no evil.
That's Protection!

For Thou art with me
That's Faithfulness

Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me,
That's Discipline!

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
That's Hope!

Thou annointest my head with oil,
That's Consecration!

My cup runneth over.
That's Abundance!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.
That's Blessing!

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord.
That's Security!

Forever.
That's Eternity!

Face it; the Lord thinks you are special.
What is most valuable, is not what we have in our lives; but WHO we have in our lives.

Psalm 150:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. 2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. 4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. 5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Great chapter in the Bible. When you need to be reminded of why we are here. Praise The LORD!

Matthew 23:39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'

I went to visit and observe a Rosh Hashanah service on Thursday evening. It was a very moving and uplifting experience. The very first song the congregation sang was called "baruch haba b'shem adonai" which was taken from Psalm 118:26 and reiterated by Jesus in Matthew 23:39.
Christians and Jews alike are looking for Messiah to come and bring peace to this tumultuous & chaotic world. The difference of course is one is looking for His 1st coming and the other His 2nd.

The rabbi's message to the congregation was to take inventory of your own heart, your own life and be prepared for the coming of Messiah. When He does return He will come to judge the wicked & unrighteous.

Psalm 24:v7 Lift up your heads you gates (of the city). Lift up your very old doors. Then the king of glory will come in. v8 Who is the king of glory? The LORD that is strong and mighty. The LORD that is powerful in war. v9 Lift up your heads you gates of the city. Lift up its very old doors. Then the king of glory will come in. v10 Who is the king of glory? The LORD Almighty. He is the king of glory!

He also encouraged us all to be a light in our darkened world. Don't let prejudice, racism, and hatred skew our vision and perception of humanity that God loves. God loves us all. Jew, Arab, American, Iranian, etc. In Isaiah 60 we are told by God that His people will be "a light unto the nations". Darkness will cover the earth and a thick darkness the nations, BUT God will shine upon you (His people), then nations will be led to the LIGHT and guided by it. Its time for us, God's people to "rise & shine" & let the "glory of the Lord" shine upon us. AMEN.

Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
25 have now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

... House on the Rock

Built a house by my friend. Him on the rock and me on the sand.
I stood outside in the pouring rain, my house fell down, I started over again.
I was living a dream, Oh I was on top.
But storms were coming, Lord they don't stop.
That's why its wise to build your house on the rock.

Up and down that road Jesus wore out shoes.
Talking the Kingdom and teaching the Jews.
You went with Jesus but I stayed behind.
But you both knew it was just a matter of time.
I was living a dream, Oh I was on top.
But storms were coming, Lord they don't stop.
That's why its wise to build your house on the rock.

Not a waste of time, I'm alive today.
But learning from mistakes, there's an easier way.
Doing God's word has a means to an end.
Living for God is really living my friend.
Your living a dream, Oh your on top.
But storms are coming, Lord they don't stop.
That's why its wise to build your house on the rock.
That's why its wise to build your house on the rock.
That's why its wise to build your house on the rock.

I penned these words over a year ago. I was reading my Sunday School lesson and it covered this passage of scripture. Me & Hannah were listening to a Stevie Ray Vaughn CD.
"Life by the Drop" came over the speakers and these words just flowed out of me to the tune of that song. Hannah loved it and we sang it over and over again. She loved to sing. She liked to sing old blues songs with me. Jimmy Reed, SRV, and Albert King.
Yesterday was Labor Day. I really missed her, playing music, singing with her, playing "box" in her room as she watched and repeated every word I said.
Sept. 10th is the death anniversary of my brother. He passed away at the age of 39 in 1996.
Mom always reminded me every year. She & I would sit & talk about him, reflect on memories of him.
Sometimes our family has to really try hard to be happy around holidays.
Grandfather passed away on Valentine's Day (heart attack)
Mother passed away on 18th of Feb. (heart attack)
Brother passed away on Labor Day weekend (cancer)
Grandmother passed away on Memorial Day weekend
Daughter suffered the seizure that eventually took her life on my 47th birthday (epilepsy)
Of course @ Christmas & Thanksgiving we miss them terribly and its just not the same.

I stood at my patio door and looked up in the sky through the trees, crying, missing my girl, my mother & brother. I know one day we'll all be together again.

"... in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can’t build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquillity will return again." - Anne Frank

Psalm 22:26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.28 For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations.

God is in control. Nothing takes Him by suprise.

A Dream...

Psalm34:

1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. 3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

I had a dream the other night. God & I were talking. I was troubled & upset about Hannah leaving us at such a young age and questioned God about the details, her suffering, our suffering, why, why, why?

Finally God said "Do you remember what I told Job?" Job lost his entire family (except his wife) in one day as well as his financial security and his own friends judged him as someone who may have deserved what he got. Then to add insult to injury, Job was stricken w a devastating disease called leprosy. In his day, there were no hospitals, no support groups, no clinics, etc... just isolation. The only advice he received was from his estranged wife and she told him to "curse God & die".

I quickly replied, "but I'm not Job!" Never have been, never wanted to be, how is it that my father, my mother, grand parents, my brother, & now my daughter have all been taken from me. What is the deal?

God reminded me that "everything is mine". Gold, silver, cattle, fruit of the vine, and even humans. He created us, He redeemed us, He is coming back for us.

I Thess. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Hannah, Mom, Dewayne, were never mine. God put us all here as a family together to help each other make it to that final day. God also said "they are here because their work was done, they are finished." "You on the other hand are not finished." "You still have a purpose to fulfill.
And those that have gone on before you are cheering you on."

As He spoke I thought of this scripture...
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Then God smiled and said "your race isn't over, keep running..." and I woke up.

A Poem sent to me

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North Platte , Nebraska , it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Missouri . The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem. And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging its way across the world via internet.

What do you see nurses? . . . . . What do you see?What are you thinking . . . . . when you're looking at me?

A crabby old man . . . . . not very wise,Uncertain of habit . . . . . with faraway eyes?Who dribbles his food . . . . . and makes no reply.When you say in a loud voice . . . . . 'I do wish you'd try!'

Who seems not to notice . . . . . the things that you do.And forever is losing . . . . . A sock or shoe?Who, resisting or not . . . . . lets you do as you will,With bathing and feeding . . . . .

The long day to fill? Is that what you're thinking? . . . . . Is that what you see?

Then open your eyes, nurse . . . . . you're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am. . . . . . As I sit here so still,As I do at your bidding, . . . . . as I eat at your will.

I'm a small child of Ten .. . . . . with a father and mother,Brothers and sisters . . . . . who love one another.

A young boy of Sixteen . . . . with wings on his feet.Dreaming that soon now . . . . . a lover he'll meet.

A groom soon at Twenty . . . . . my heart gives a leap. Remembering, the vows . . . . . that I promised to keep.At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . I have young of my own.Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home. A man of Thirty . . . . . My young now grown fast, Bound to each other . . . . . With ties that should last.At Forty, my young sons . . . . . have grown and are gone,But my woman's beside me . . . . . to see I don't mourn.At Fifty, once more, babies play 'round my knee, Again, we know children . .. . . My loved one and me.Dark days are upon me . .. . . my wife is now dead.

I look at the future . . . . . shudder with dread.For my young are all rearing . . . . . young of their own. And I think of the years . . . . . and the love that I've known.I'm now an old man . . . . . and nature is cruel.Tis jest to make old age . . . . . look like a fool. The body, it crumbles .. . . . . grace and vigor, depart. There is now a stone . . . . where I once had a heart.But inside this old carcass . . . . . a young guy still dwells, And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells. I remember the joys . . . . . I remember the pain.And I'm loving and living . . . . . life over again. I think of the years, all too few . . . . . gone too fast. And accept the stark fact . . . . that nothing can last.So open your eyes, people . . . . . open and see. Not a crabby old man . . . Look closer . . . see ME!!

Heavenly Visions...

Revelation 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter.
2 And immediately I was in the spirit; and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. 3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

Wow! What John must've felt like. Getting a glimpse of heaven. Heard another wonderful message on Revelation this weekend. Text taken from this passage. God opened the door to the very throne room of God and gave him a quick tour. Read the entire 4th chapter. It will give you goose bumps.
Then continue into Chapter 5. Revelation 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? 3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. 5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. 6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. 7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. 8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Worthy is the Lamb! So amazing that the LION of Judah is also the Lamb of God, which takes away the sins of the world.

Revelation1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Heard a good Bible lesson on this taught yesterday. The thing that stood out to me the most was the description of Jesus by John. John saw Jesus daily walking around Palestine for 3+ years. Saw Him crucified, saw him resurrected, etc. But this description is so different from the Jesus he described in his Gospel. This was truly a revelation of risen, victorious, triumphant savior. The other cool thing about this is when Jesus spoke to John and told him not to be afraid. he used a familiar phrase to describe Himself. One that John was all too familiar with. I AM.
FEAR NOT, I AM. Earlier in John's relationship w Christ, Jesus proclaimed "I am the good shepherd, I am the way, the truth, the life, I am the bread, before Abraham was, I AM". In John 18, Judas & the guards came to apprehend Jesus and when Jesus asked "whom seek ye?". They answered "Jesus of Nazareth". His reply was " I AM HE".
Verse 6 says they went backwards and fell to the ground.
Truly one day every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, AKA I AM.

Psalm 100:1.Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Mom would've been 72 today. Always enjoyed the smile she expressed when we got her something for her b-day and on Christmas too. A card, sugar free candy, crossword puzzle books, a bottle of Jovan perfume, a watch, a duster (a robe w buttons, not something to actually dust furniture with...:) )etc.
It really didn't take a lot to please her and make her smile. It was just enough to know someone remembered and cared enough to acknowledge her special day. I know this sort of thing meant a lot to her because when going through her things, there were literally hundreds if not thousands of b-day cards, Christmas cards, sympathy cards, wedding invitations, thank you cards, b-day invitations, post cards, etc. I think she kept every card any one had ever sent to her. Letters too. I saw letters from her youngest sister when she lived in Ohio (over 40+ years ago), letters from me when I was in college (in the early to mid 80's), letters from my brother when he was in the Navy (1976-79) more recent letters (she didn't care for computers and didn't ever use EMAIL, at all) from old friends and relatives. She kept "everything".

During her life, she felt called to the ministry of cards and letter contact. Her burden was missionaries and their families. Mom sent b-day cards, anniversary cards, and "praying for you" cards to missionaries & their children all over the world. Many of them I come across or hear about still ask about her and comment on how much it meant to them, a half a world away, to receive cards from someone in the U.S. who was thinking about and praying for them.

I know her and our family that have gone on before us are celebrating her b-day today. What a wonderful life she shared w me & the rest of us who remain here.
Happy Birthday Mom!
We miss you, but are so happy that you can eat all the cake and ice cream you want and not worry about your weight or your sugar. Say "hello" to all I know there and give my girl a great big hug & kiss from me.

He Lives!

At service they sang a song that I remembered my brother sang when he led singing and sang specials at a church we attended many years ago.
"He Lives"...
I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today,
I know that He is living, whatever men may say
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer
and just the time I need Him, He's always near.

Chorus:
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today.
He walks with me and talks with me
Along the narrow way
He lives, He lives, Salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives, he lives within my heart.

Going through more of mom's things this weekend I came across a picture. It was a picture of my mother and my daughter Hannah sitting on mom's bed. In the background of the picture, on the wall behind them, were pictures of my brother. At first I was a little creeped out. All 3 subjects in this picture were no longer with me.
But then this scripture came to my mind. Jesus talking to the Pharisees...
.....
Matthew 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
.....

Then today at this service, "He Lives" was sang and this scripture was posted on the big overhead screen.
.....
I Corinthians 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
.....
Then its like the Lord reminded me that even though mom, Hannah, & Dewayne are no longer "with us" in the earth, this separation is only temporary. Really, that is all DEATH is, separation. But thanks be to God for giving us victory over DEATH, HELL, & the GRAVE. HE is the God of the living. Sometimes in our grief we act as the
Pharisees did when speaking of Abraham and their forefathers, in the past tense.
But they ARE ALIVE just as Jesus is ALIVE.
.....
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
.....
What a blessed hope!

...These Colors Don't Run

We just moved to Arlington back in June. I have been taking time to sit in garage and go through moms "stuff" she kept over the years. Its amazing all the things we accumulate over time and what we deem important enough to hold on to. This weekend I came across her box of things that were my brothers keep sakes, memories, etc. My brother passed away in 1996 on Sept. 10th, at the ripe old age of 39. He had cancer. As I begin to pick up things to look at, pictures, articles of clothing, I begin to weep. There was a little jacket my uncle, who was in the airforce, had bought for him while he served in Korea. I was especially moved when I picked up the U.S. flag my mother was given by the Navy after his death, I remembered a phrase I had read on a T-shirt of a friend. Speaking of the American flag, the T-shirt said "these colors don't run". I still believe that. Since he passed away, there has been 911, Katrina, Iraq, Afghanistan, Haiti, and now the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. America isn't perfect by no stretch of the imagination. But one thing we can say is that when duty calls, when tragedy strikes, when challenges arise, when some leaders would push us towards socialism, "these colors don't run".

I remembered his memorial service. I still had the notes he wrote down for me & our pastor at the time. When he found out he had cancer and only had months if not but a few weeks to live. He made preparations. He made a VCR tape to say good bye. He also wrote letters to my mother & myself, telling us how much he loved us and how much we meant to him.

My oldest son is about to set off for college. He has aspirations to study law, maybe practice, and possibly to become a politician. I'm going to give him my brother's flag and remind him that no matter where his political pursuits take him,
always honor that flag, especially those who sacrifice their lives to protect it and what it represents. Many a loyal soldier, sailor, airman, marine, has let their own blood run so we can say about the flag & freedom they protected. These "colors don't run."

Remembering My Girl...

Yesterday was 6 month anniversary of Hannah's passing. I went to visit a Messianic Jewish church in Duncanville yesterday as well and it was an awsome experience. One of the things that stood out to me was members of the congreation partcipated in a structured dance during songs & worship. It was the neatest thing I had ever seen.
I couldn't help but think my little girl was in heaven probably doing this same dance around the throne of Jesus. She always called Him "my Jesus". I miss her terribly, but I try to take comfort in the fact that she is in the best possible place imaginable. In heaven, there is no sickness, no epilepsy, no autism, no sadness.

Today I went to ALC in Plano, TX. They sang the 'revelation song' and it was one of Hannah's favorites. I wept as we sang thinking of how happy she must be.
I wonder some days if this hurt will ever go away, but the messages I've heard from God the last 2 days gives me hope. Msg #1, Israel was told by God that they should've conquered Canaan years before they actually did. Near 40 to be exact. 10 Israeli spies blamed their doubt on giants, but the thing is that Ammon, Moab, & Edom all conquered their respective lands by defeating giants. If pagan peoples that offer their own children as sacrifices to false gods can defeat the giants in their lives, why can't a people who are blessed by God, and are God's chosen people?
Msg #2, Jesus healed a blind man and asked him what he saw. He replied " I see men as trees walking...". Jesus then instructed him to LOOK UP, and the man saw clearly.
Many times God touches us, blesses us, heals us, and we require a 2nd touch to see what HE has for us clearly. The 2nd moral to this story is that we need to stop looking at "man". Humans, since the garden, have not been clear, made sense, etc...
Only time we can SEE CLEARLY is if we do LOOK UP toward Heaven and see Jesus.
HE is the only constant, He is the only one that matters and will make perfect sense.
The reason we don't get God many times is because HIS ways are above our ways.
Peter got the picture @ Cesarea Phillipi when asked "who is Jesus...".
Thou ART THE CHRIST. Nothing will make sense to you until YOU KNOW WHO JESUS IS...

They Shall Be Mine...

Malachi 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. 17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

I love this passage of scripture and also love the song by Andre Crouch it inspired, "They Shall Be Mine".

David's Thoughts...

This is something I've wanted to do for awhile now. I post scriptures on FB but they give you little for an entire passage and if I have comments to add, they have to go into the comments field below. Again space is limited.

This blog gives me a chance to express my "artistic" side and share w family & friends.
Most posts will be personal and reflective. Some will be a favorite Bible scripture or a favorite quote and my thoughts on it.

Purpose of this blog is to share thoughts and feelings and hopefully incite creative thinking & possibly inspiration to all readers. Truthfully, any of my thoughts or opinions will not be meant to offend or attack anyone.

Hope you enjoy it! Thoughts & Prayers, DLC
